New Renault Trafic E-Tech electric wins Van of the Year 2027

Renault's next-generation electric Trafic was the unanimous choice of the International Van of the Year jury. The award is significant, but UK buyers should wait for confirmed local prices, specifications and delivery timing before comparing it with vans available now.

THE SHORT VERSION

What you need to know

  • The International Van of the Year jury named the new Trafic Van E-Tech electric its 2027 winner.
  • Renault says the van uses an 800-volt electrical architecture for rapid DC charging.
  • The model introduces a software-defined vehicle platform intended to support later feature updates.
  • UK pricing, final local specifications and firm customer delivery dates still need confirmation.

Why the award matters

The International Van of the Year panel comprises specialist commercial-vehicle journalists from across Europe. Renault says the new Trafic was chosen unanimously at the 2026 IAA Transportation show in Hanover, making it Renault's sixth winner of the award.

Awards are useful evidence that an important new van deserves attention, but they do not make it the right choice for every operator. Payload, load dimensions, charging, real daily mileage, purchase price and expected time off the road matter more to an individual business.

What is different about the new Trafic?

Renault is highlighting an 800-volt electrical system, rapid DC charging and a software-defined platform. In practical terms, those features are intended to improve charging speed and allow some functions to evolve through software rather than remaining fixed for the life of the van.

The design also moves away from the shape of the present Trafic. The wheels are pushed towards the corners and the front overhang is short, with the aim of creating useful interior space while retaining urban manoeuvrability. Exact UK versions must be judged when final technical data is released.

Should you wait for it?

A business that needs a van immediately should compare vehicles that can actually be ordered and delivered now. Waiting may make sense if electric operation fits the work, the present van remains dependable and the new Trafic's final specification could materially improve the business case.

When ordering opens, Damian can compare the purchase price and specification with alternatives available at the time. The aim is to buy the van that works for the business—not to chase an award or a headline technology on its own.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR ME?

Your questions answered

Is the award for the current electric Trafic?

No. It is for Renault's new-generation Trafic Van E-Tech electric, a different vehicle from the existing electric Trafic sold in recent years.

When can I buy one in the UK?

Renault has presented the production model, but firm UK prices, specifications and customer delivery dates should be confirmed before planning a purchase.

Does 800-volt charging mean every charge will be very fast?

No. The charging result also depends on battery temperature, state of charge, the vehicle's charging curve and the power actually delivered by the charger.

Should I delay replacing an unreliable van?

Not automatically. Downtime and repair risk can cost more than waiting saves. Compare a confirmed in-stock van with the expected benefits and uncertain timing of the new model.

Can National Autos source the new Trafic when it arrives?

Damian can check UK ordering and availability when Renault confirms the local range, then compare it with suitable purchase alternatives.
